The buffalo or golden bean (Thermoses rhombifolia) is a native prairie wildflower that blooms in early spring. Indigenous peoples used its blooming time as an indicator for the start of the spring buffalo hunt (in Canada). This plant takes nitrogen from the air and enriches the soil. Wildflowers remind us that beauty and resilience can flourish in unexpected places.
