“Babbling brooks fill our hearts with their merry song, tinkling like child’s laughter.” – Heather Sinton

Taking time to reflect by the side of a beautiful mountain stream is medicine for the soul. I love listening to the sound of trickling water and we will soon hear that lovely sound again as spring arrives. Swaddled in delicate vegetation, the babbling baby brook in this short video threads down the slopes of Whitehorn Mountain in Banff National Park, Canada. The water sparkles over pebbles and winds under crevices. Gentle breezes stir nearby foliage and the air is fresh with the scent of spruce and pine. Peace and harmony flow from the scene, refreshing weary spirits.

Now is a good time for reflecting on uplifting experiences like this that enrich our lives. During difficult times in my life, I keep a gratitude journal. Each day I write down three things that I am thankful for. Family, friends, and creative endeavours make regular appearances. But what I find surprising is how often I am thankful for the little things in life…birds singing as I walk, the smell of coffee, sparkles on the snow, a favourite piece of music, someone’s smile, a child’s delight. Stopping to pay attention in the moment makes life so much richer!
